Explanation of the new Avalon Artifacts feature in King of Avalon.

Scope of this Article

This covers my understanding of the Avalon Artificats. I think I understand the basics, but still not have knowledge of everything, as always additional information is appreciated.

Basics

Via the new statue in the middle of the city you can acquire extra combat boosts. To get these boosts there is a two step process, first you need to Activate a Tome (with Holy Dust) and with an activated Tome you can Craft an Artifact (requiring Lake Gravel).

The setup of the Artifacts are very similar to the Prestige Statues. There are 5 grades which can be refined to a higher level the higher the grade is. Each grade consists of 4 types. There is one that has Troop Attack, Health, Defense benefits, one that gives infantry attack/defense/health, one that gives cavalry attack/defense/health and one that gives bowmen attack/defense/health. The total boosts provided at the highest level are 80% for the troop specific boosts and 22.86% for the Troop Attack/Defense/Health boosts.

The Artifacts are placed in 8 slots, two of each type. Note that you only need to Activate one Tome of each type with which you can Craft Artifacts for both corresponding slots.

Ingredients

There are three items, Holy Dust, Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist. Holy Dust is required to Activate a Tome, Lake Gravel to Craft an Artifact. I don't have any experience with the Enchanted Mist yet, I assume this is required to Enhance Artifacts. The green ones I made so far cannot be enhanced.

The new Demonic Siege event gives as rewards for points Holy Dust and Small Artifact Material Chests and as rewards for killing Bonus Formorians you get Small Artifact Material Chest. These chests contain Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist.

There is a new Lucky Shot field with Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist as rewards.

When you reach top 100 on the ranking for the Dragon Spirit Arena event you can select 1000 Lake Gravel or 200 Enchanted Mist as possible rewards.

In the Goods Exchange there is a new section to request Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist.

Required Amounts

For activating a green, blue or purple Tome you need 5, 25, or 100 Holy Dust respectively.

To craft a green artifact you need 100 Lake Gravel, to craft a blue artifact you need 600 Lake Gravel, to craft a purple artifacts you need 1500 Lake Gravel and 200 Enchanted Mist.

Enhancing Artifacts

Not sure how this works yet, I assume you need Enchanted Mist. It seems all Artifacts only have one level, but the purple can be enhanced to orange and orange to gold.

Comparison with Prestige Statues

Although the type of boost setup is very different as the ones from Prestige Statues, the amounts are quite different. The maximum boosts you can get are slightly different (e.g. 160% Bowmen Attack vs 140% Bowmen Attack), but the big difference is how the lower grade boosts compare to the higher grade boosts. With a complete set of green prestige statues the troop type specific boosts are 14%, and the Troop Attack/Defense/Health boosts 4%, while having 8 green Artifacts will give you 70% troop type specific boosts and 20% TRoop Attack/Defense/Health.

Tactic

As above analysis points out, the difference between the most basic Artifacts and fully enhanced best Artifacts is quite small, this makes it very attractive to first work on a full set of green Artifacts, and only afterwards start focusing on higher grade Artifacts. Note that you can dismantle Artifacts for Materials, which means you don't lose much by first going for lower level ones (although I don''t think there is a way to get the items used to activate a tome back).

Restrictions

This feature is unlocked at Stronghold 17 and the slots to attach the artifacts are unlocked on Stronghold levels 17 to 23.

Conclusion

Initially I found this feature a bit complicated, and especially because the Demonic Siege event which can be used to get the Ingredients is quite complicated as well, I was not that interested to dive into this feature, but now that I have looked at it a bit more I think it is quite nice. The attractive part for me is that the in game ways to get this (mainly Demonic Siege) are relatively easy for small and non spenders. Also the fact that the difference between the maxed out highest grade Artifacts and lowest grade Artifacts is quite small is beneficial for low/non spenders.
